A System Delivery With Design

Propulsion House 300kW Shore Converter 2025

Customer was re-furbishing successfully the existing floating dock for the new demanding environment.

Frequency and voltage conversion was mandatory because the dock was originally manufactured in Singapore, where the power grid there is different from the target grid in Ivory Coast. Delivery was under extreme timetable pressure as the dock was transferred to its operation position with a heavy lifter. Therefore, everything was required to be up and running according to the planning. We thank the end customer for this responsibility and be happy to report that we were able to execute the design, make manufacturing / procurement actions,  and the installation on time, within very tight delivery time schedule.

300 kW shore converter and the entire electrical system surrounding it were installed in Indonesia on time and commissioned with a customer in Ivory Coast, where shore energy was available. The system takes 400 V 50 Hz from the shore power feed and converts it onboard to 440 V 60 Hz.

A floating dock application is a challenging environment for generating an electrical network for the converter, as the power factor is sometimes very low.

Power factor compensation was a necessary addition to the design to extend the service life of the shore-side converter.
